Reid has lost some of the locker room
A lot can be said about Andy Reid's tumultuous tenure in Philadelphia. But never this: The Eagles coach has lost his team. The Birds have always said the right things and never pointed fingers. But, now, with an 8-6-1 mark
"The run game got us to this point. But we can't figure out what the coaches are thinking in their head," running back Correll Buckhalter said after Reid's offense called for 50 passes and 14 runs in a 10-3 loss Sunday at Washington. "They make the calls and we have to go with them whether they are run or pass."
Really, a large portion of the Eagles' offense was upset with the playcalling. Aside from Buckhalter, center Jamaal Jackson gave a "no comment" whenever pressed about why they did not run the ball more. And star running back Brian Westbrook? He was equally confounded.
"I don't ask questions," he said. "Coach saw something that dictated that we should pass the ball."
Offensive tackle Jon Runyan took his underlying Reid criticism one step further. He went after the coach's selection of wide receivers, this year and in the past.
"The biggest issue is you have to catch the ball," Runyan said. "It's been the situation here for several years. Simple -- you have to catch the ball. It popped up again."
Usually, when a coach loses the locker room, it's the beginning of the end. It's now only a matter of time before Reid's tenure comes to an end. Problem is, the Eagles might not have hit rock-bottom just yet.
